Slot Machine positioning

August 12th, 2026 at 7:25

Books have been stated on this subject, and the bickering and disharmony about where the "hot" slot games are positioned in a casino are still on-going – over 60 years after one armed bandits were first added to the gaming floor in gambling dens.

The traditional rule is that the superior slot machine games were positioned just inside the entry of the casino; so that potential players passing by would be able to see actual jackpot winners and be baited to come into the casino … play. Our resolve is that this is not so anymore.

Nearly all of the large casinos these days are herculean complexes and you can no longer see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to put the ‘loose’ slot games in close proximity to any exits.

Another traditional rule is that loose one armed bandits are located on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more potential players could see winning jackpots and be roused to play. Importantly however, we find that this also isn’t a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slot machine games at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

In recent times, casinos are constantly changing their perspective about where to place the loose one armed bandits.
